Around 15 years ago, the late Mike Andrew organised the Club’s first Walking weekend in Conway. This past weekend witnessed eight members visiting The George Inn at Hubberholme, Yorkshire. A Toast was proposed by this year’s organiser, Peter Chapman, to absent friends, those unable to join us this year and those no longer with us. A wonderful weekend of Fellowship.

I was sat next to Mike on the evening of the chartering of the Lichfield Spires 41 Club at the George Hotel. If I recall correctly, it was a Wednesday night, just before the Round Table National Conference weekend in Harrogate. I learned of his passing whilst en route to Harrogate and was totally shocked. I’d had the pleasure of meeting Mike not only at 41 Club meetings but also during the Tableau season when he would open up his home as a stop. A throughly decent man and the number of people present at his funeral was testament to the impact he had had on so many young people’s lives, not least with the Scouts. It was an honour and a privilege to have known him and it’s touching to know that he is still remembered and respected.
