Chairman’s Remarks: Jan – Feb 2024

Chairman Colin “Ladies Man” John recalls events over the last couple of months – haggis, Welsh cakes and atomic bombs**. Now there’s a line you don’t often see. Read more here.

Chairman Colin and Tangent Chair Jenny Gray at Ladies Lunch.

Please don’t forget Chairman’s Drinks on Sunday 24th March – let Colin know asap if you will be attending, and any dietary requirements.

**On the subject of atomic, remember the Blondie classic from 1980? It’s not actually about atomic bombs of course. Or is it?

June Organer – update

We have heard that June’s funeral will be taking place on Thursday 28th March 2024 at 11:30am, at Fradley Crematorium

With great sorrow, we learned that June Organer, wife of Terry, passed away at St Giles Hospice on the evening of Wednesday 21st February. June was a past Chair of Lichfield Tangent, and Jenny Tipper told us:

“June finally lost her fight against cancer.  She was a very brave lady, and an inspiration to all who knew her. Terry  her husband and daughters Jill and Caroline were with her”

Terry Organer was a member of Lichfield RT 250 and then Lichfield 41 Club for several years.

We send our deepest condolences to Terry and family.

The Fastest Milkman

As many of you will know, Ernie Murray made a dramatic early exit from President’s Night, much to the consternation of all. Good news is he’s back home, feeling better, and would like to pass on this message:

I am recovering well from this latest episode and I apologise to our President, club members and guests for disrupting their enjoyment of his eponymous Dinner. Contrary to rumours, my collapse was not due to a Welsh cake becoming stuck in my craw. I didn’t even get a chance to try one before I was flung to the floor by my well meaning table companions. On that point, I am truly grateful to all those who came to my aid, from activating my heart monitor, placing me in the recovery position to calling for an ambulance and waiting with me until I was carted off to hospital. I am also humbled by the large number of messages I have received from fellow members of our club wishing me well. These have been greatly appreciated. I hope to see everyone at the AGM next month.

Wives and loved ones were our guests this lunchtime, with flowers beautifully arranged and presented by our host, Head of Vice Roger Hartley. Guest of honour was Jenny Gray, Chair of Tangent.

President’s Night – 28th Feb 2024

Guest of honour National President Steve James joined our own President Roger Davies and many others for a night to remember, in every sense. Phil Burke won the Heads and Tails raffle, proceeds of which have been donated to Steve James’ chosen charity Prostate Cancer UK.
