2021 Christmas Float

A merry band of Lichfield 41’ers and some enthusiastic helpers, turned out on Saturday night to collect in Longdon and Kings Bromley, raising £657.42.

A big thank you to Roger Hartley for co-ordinating the collection from his steam train, Team leaders John Moore and Ian Maybury, Driver Mark de Block with Eva, Santa Rob Horton, and Elves Mike Atkinson, Brian Gordon, Colin and Shelagh John, John Moore’s granddaughters, Brian and Iris Thompson, Terry and Wendy Webb, and a couple of guests – we couldn’t have done it without you! And apologies if we have missed anyone….. Rob H

Chairman’s Christmas Message

Christmas greetings to you all. So here we all are, fingers crossed, that we will actually be able to spend Christmas with our families – unlike last year!  Pat and I will be travelling to Whitstable on Friday to spend Christmas and New Year with our daughters and their families, who all live in Kent.

I wanted to thank you all for your support during the almost 2 years that I have now been in the Chair. Despite all the difficulties we have faced we have manged to keep the spirit of the Club alive and the last meeting saw a record turnout – just one apology!

Whittington Heath golf club are looking after us very well. The food is excellent and the room is bright and warm, but I do hear some complaints about the acoustics.

As we move into 2022, I am hoping that we will be able to get back to undertaking more activities. Our next formal meeting is on Wednesday 5 January and Peter Good, National President of 41 Club will be joining us. I intend to have a discussion about what we must actually do to obtain the £30,000 we need to arrange the perpetual maintenance of the 41 Club Garden at the National Arboretum.  There was some talk at the Christmas meeting of a group of us going to the National AGM in Cardiff in April to help things along – as we have done on the past!

Also, in January I would like to have a Council meeting immediately before the informal meeting on 19 January. We will agree the details on 5 January.

In January we will also have our first social event for some time. On Sunday 30 January Pat and I will be hosting Chairmans’ Drinks. The punctuation is intentional as this will be a joint 41 Club and Tangent function as my wife, Pat, is Chairman of Tangent. The event will take place in Little Aston Village Hall from 2.30 pm until 5.30 pm. The full address is 8 Little Aston Lane, Sutton Coldfield, B74 3UF. The hall has a large car park and access to the hall is flat with no steps. We hope you will all be able to join us for drinks and snacks.

Just two weeks later, on 13 February, we will be having our Ladies’ Luncheon. This is being organised by VC Terry and will be held at Darnford Moors Golf Club. Terry will circulate the full details in the New Year.

Finally, Pat and I won’t be sending Christmas cards this year and will be sending a donation to St Giles instead.  We support St Giles in a number of ways – we will be helping with their Tree Cycle again in January.
