R.I.P. 2 – Stewart Band

It must be the time of year…. message from Peter Robinson, follows.

I have just received the sad news that Stewart died of cancer on Sunday 24th November.  He was a founder member of Lichfield District RT 1200.

I remember sitting close to him at a Table meeting in 1975, when he introduced himself.  I asked if he had a daughter called Alice.  After Barry Harris guffawed, Stewart eventually saw the humour in my question.

Gill Dabinett wife of Rob Dabinett passed away this weekend after a shortish illness. She was in a care home in Sutton Coldfield. The funeral is on 19th December. Details to follow.

Former 41Club and 250 RT member Bob Standing passed away last Friday morning. He died peacefully in his sleep at a care home where he had been for the last 18 months. No funeral arrangements as yet.

Chairman’s Update

Greetings Gentlemen, and I hope you are all well.

As mentioned at the last meeting, on 9th December Wolverhampton Round Table 17 is celebrating its 90th Charter, and sadly closing as well.

This is a one off chance to attend the last meeting of one of the oldest Tables in the country. I’ll be going and would be happy if anyone else can come along as well – cost is £25, and it’s at South Staffs Golf Club on 9th December, 7 for 7:30pm. I need to confirm numbers and pay now, so please get back to me as soon as possible.

Chairman’s Message

Greetings Gentlemen, and I hope you are all well. A quick reminder and a new date for the diary:

We have a speaker meeting next Wednesday 13th November, and please can I encourage as many of you as possible to come along. Our speaker is crime author Jim McGrath, and he has written several excellent books, set in the dark underbelly of 1960’s Birmingham – it should be a great evening. Booking is to John Godson.

And now, please put lunchtime Sunday 29th December in your diaries – Chairman’s Drinks chez Kightley, kicking off at noon. More details to follow, and we look forward to seeing you all then for a post-Christmas chilled event.

Keep smiling and see you this Sunday at the Remembrance Day service/lunch and at next week’s meeting.

Cheers

Andrew
